Abilities are effectively traits that grant players special actions. A perfect example of these are the spells obtained through Magic Skills.
Unlike ordinary traits, Abilities are usually obtained through a special mechanic rather than simply being taken one at a time through landmark advancement. It's up to the setting developer to include a description of how to obtain the ability in the ability description.
